Bay 3-1 Greenfield   Venue: Oriel Park

Bay picked up the win in this first round cup game played in Oriel Park.  A comprehensive performance from start to finish saw Bay run out easy winners.  Bay raced into an early lead when Paul Minford converted a close range free kick.  Clever play from Dave McAlester set up Terry Minford for the second as Bay began to assert their dominance.  Terry Minford added a third giving Bay a comfortable lead at the break.  All the football after the break came from Bay but it was Greenfield who added to the score sheet late in the game.  It was a win that will please Bay who had been in good form following wins in their pre season friendlies.

Bay 1-7 Avenue Road Celtic   Venue:  Oriel Park

Unfortunately this is a game that Bay will want to forget in a hurry.  They were always going to be up against it facing a strong Avenue Road side, who had added to their squad greatly since last seasons Winter League.  The Bay defence held out for the first half hour, but the passing of Avenue Road became too much as they faced half time with a 4-0 deficit.  Things got better shortly after half-time.  David McAlesters long range speculative shot deceived the keeper, reducing the deficit to 3.  The comeback was short lived however. Defensive mistakes and an inability to defend set-pieces cost Bay once more as Avenue added 3 late goals.

Bay United 2-1 Annagasson      Venue: Oriel Park

Bays second game of the league ended in a 2-1 win.  In a closely fought match it was an 89th minute winner from Terry Minford that proved to be the deceive goal.  Bay dominated the early proceedings, creating numerous chances on goal.  However, strikers Andy Shields and Terry Minford were finding the Annagasson keeper in great form.  The breakthrough came around the half hour mark.  Paul Minford reacted quickly to a breaking ball and riffled home from just outside the area.  Anagasson were having many chances at the other end however and Bay were glad to hear the half time whistle.  The second half saw Bay come under increasing pressure.  The Bay back four of David Needham, Gordon McAlester, Ronan Wall and debutant David Kettle were all turning in brilliant defensive performances, reducing the opposition to long range shots.  The equaliser came from a harsh penalty given by the ref.  With only minutes remaining, the game looked destined for a draw until David McAlester broke down the right and played in Terry Minford, who finished in style.  There was barely time for another attack from Annagasson as the referee soon blew for full time. An important and well-deserved win for Bay.

Bay 3-6 North East Celtic   Venue:  Oriel Park

A strange game in many ways that showed two sides of Bay.  For the first 40 mins they controlled the game scoring two goals. The first came from great passing in midfield that released Andy Shields on the wing.  Using his pace, he turned the defender before picking out Terry Minford to finish.  Shileds was again involved in the second goal when he was brought down in the area.  Paul Minford converted the spot-kick. Two goals just before the break made a crucial difference in this game.  Bay let their two goal lead slip into a two goal deficit in the space of ten minutes either side of half time.  Fortunate strikes of the woodwork accounted for two more goals for the opposition.  Cian Hammill managed to pull one back for Bay late on but it was merely a consolation.

Bay United 2-2 Doolargy All Stars  Venue: DKIT 29/11/09

A game played in treacherous conditions yielded a poor performance from Bay. Bay were expected to win the game comfortably and dominated the early proceedings.  Strikeforce of Dave McAlester and Andy Shields caused Doolargy defence problems with direct running.  Just rewards came for Bay when Paul Broadhurst bundled in at the far post.  A second quickly followed as Paul Minford converted from thee penalty spot.  Dollargy were let back into the game after a bad refereeing decision.  Bay would have expected to assert further dominance in the second half but struggled to break down a resilient defence.  Doolargy scored midway the half to level the game.  Bay had chances to win the game in the dying minutes but lacked a cutting edge, wasting several good chances.

Bay United 3-0 Ramparts  Venue: Oriel 05/12/09

A great performance from Bay led to a convincing win.  Last weeks disappointment of the Doolargy game was soon forgotten with a comprehensive performance here. Bay enjoyed much of the early possession and created several chances.  A terrific Terry Minford strike from outside the area resulted in his fifth goal of the season.  Bay should have been further ahead at the break, but Ramparts never looked like scoring. The midfield pairing of Joe Needham and Paul Minford controlled the game limiting Ramparts to little possession. A virtuoso performance from Brendan Needham inspired Bay to two excellent second half goals.  The winger tormented Ramparts full back all game.  A clever pass set up Paul Minford to finish well to make it 2-0.  Ronan Wall then drifted into the opposition box to finish a teasing cross.  The clean sheet will also be pleasing for Bay.
