Bay Coach Gary Morgan takes his Coaching Skills to the Next Level

Bay FC is delighted to announce that the Clubs U15s coach Gary Morgan has completed a coaching course with TOVO Academy Barcelona. Garys participation in the course will bring great benefits to our club and young players.

Gary has already completed many coaching courses here in Ireland and holds an FAI Youth Certificate. He first took several TOVO modules on line before traveling to Sitges in Barcelona for the week long intensive course.

The course is officially sanctioned by the Catalan Football Federation of Spain and was founded by Professor Todd Beane a former professional footballer, and coach.

TOVO is based on the total football system played and taught by Johann Cruyff throughout his brilliant career. Todd worked for Johann Cruyff at the Cruyff institute before becoming his son in law. Together over 14 years he and Johann developed TOVO Academy. TOVO's focus is to develop Intelligent footballers of great Cognition, Competence, and Character (The 3C model).

The course consisted of two training sessions per day with workshop/classroom sessions in the evenings. Gary worked with ex Ajax and Dutch international John Vant Schip on 11v11 sessions, FC Barcelona U10s coach Oscar Jorquera on 7v7 and 9v9 sessions and with Michiel ten Haken a movement and biomechanics specialist who worked with teams such as Ajax, Chivas Guadalajara, and FC ADO Den Haag.

The workshop and classroom sessions were conducted by Todd Beane and by John O'Sullivan founder of Changing the Game Project.

There were Coaches from ten different countries on the course, the Maldives, Malta, Sweden, US and Canada to name but a few. Gary and the other coaches on the course got to visit FC Barcelonas "la masia" training ground and academy to watch U9, U11, and U15 matches.

When asked what the highlight of his week in Barcelona was Gary said "It was great to witness the young Barcelona teams play the way we had been coaching all week. Seeing young boys play the game properly was an absolute pleasure and an unforgettable experience. I hope I can bring some of that to our club in the future".

Gary is a very committed coach. He has completed the TOVO course and many other coaching courses all at his own expense. He is a huge asset to our club and along with coaching our current U15 team he shares his knowledge with the other Bay FC coaches.
