The NWSL season is winding down, but the action at PayPal Park is heating up. Bay FC has four home matches left on the schedule, each featuring some of the league’s premier talent. For Bay FC fans, this is the last regular-season chance to see world-class players on the pitch in San Jose before the 2025 season comes to a close.
Bay FC fans are already familiar with the likes of Penelope Hocking, the team’s leading scorer with five goals, Caprice Dydasco, who earned NWSL Best XI of the Month honors in June after leading all defenders in one-on-one situations and Racheal Kundananji, who also represents Zambia at an international level and was recognized as a 2025 Lauren Holiday Impact Award nominee.
But it’s not just Bay FC stars who will take the pitch in San Jose. The competition is just as compelling with some of the league’s top players visiting PayPal Park in the final stretch of the regular season.
Kansas City stands as one of the NWSL’s most dangerous attacking teams, leading the 2025 standings behind the partnership of Temwa Chawinga and Debinha. Chawinga, the Malawian forward who claimed the 2024 Golden Boot, wasted no time leaving her mark on the NWSL. She is the fastest player in league history to reach 30 regular-season goals (40 matches), obliterating the record previously held by Christen Press (51 matches). Chawinga signed with Kansas City Current ahead of the 2024 season and delivered the most dominate debut campaign in NWSL history.
Alongside her is Debinha, the first Brazilian and 44th player in NWSL history to reach 150 regular-season appearances. A consistent standout, she has earned multiple NWSL Best XI monthly honors this season, bringing her career total of such honors to 15. In 2024, she recorded seven goals and five assists across all competitions. On the international stage, Debinha has been equally impactful, with 146 caps and 61 goals for the Brazilian National Team.
Gotham FC arrives in San Jose with two powerhouses. Rose Lavelle has long been one of the sport’s most creative players, and after recovering from ankle surgery, she looks sharper than ever. She appeared in her first match for Gotham FC on June 7 and has been building minutes ever since. Lavelle also returned to the USWNT during the international window, where she totaled one goal and two assists across her appearances. In 2024, she recorded a career-high seven goals during the 2024 regular season, leading Gotham FC with 28 shots on target and 55 total attempts. Lavelle was also named to the 25-player U.S. Women’s National Team training camp roster and is a 2024 Olympic gold medalist.
Alongside Lavelle is forward Midge Purce, the 2023 Championship MVP known for delivering in the biggest moments. Her influence extends beyond the pitch. Purce earned herself a place on AdWeek’s Most Powerful Women in Sports list which recognized her impact both on and off the field. After a season-ending injury in 2024, Purce has returned to form in 2025 with renewed impact. She recently surpassed 10,000 career minutes in the NWSL.
The Utah Royals boast international pedigree and defensive resilience. Forward Mina Tanaka, who arrived from Kobe Leonessa of Japan’s WE League in 2024, brings proven experience on the global stage. She has represented Japan at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. At the club level, Tanaka has established herself as a reliable finisher with a powerful long-range strike.
Utah’s goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn joined Utah and quickly established herself as a cornerstone in net. She set a single-season club record with 84 saves across 24 appearances. Her standout play earned her Club MVP honors and a first call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team, where she made her international debut in a friendly against Argentina. In 2025, head coach Emma Hayes named McGlynn to the 26-player roster for the team’s opening training camp. In league play, she continues to be a regular contender for NWSL Save of the Week recognition.
Bay FC’s NWSL regular-season home finale will showcase the talent of the North Carolina Courage, led by rising star Jaedyn Shaw. At just 20, Shaw is already one of U.S. Soccer’s top young talents. She debuted with San Diego Wave FC as a teenager, scoring in her first three NWSL matches and helping the club reach the playoffs and win the 2023 Shield. Now with North Carolina, she has continued her development as an attacking presence and was recently called into the U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team training camp earlier this summer.
In goal for the Courage is Casey Murphy, who recently surpassed 400 career saves and remains one of the league’s most commanding goalkeepers. In 2024, she played every minute of the regular season, earning Iron Woman status. That same year, she became North Carolina’s all-time regular-season wins leader while recording six clean sheets and 83 saves. She has continued that consistency in 2025, starting all 16 matches and playing every minute.
