Bay FC falls 2-1 in road match against San Diego Wave FC

San Diego, Calif. (April 27, 2024) – Bay FC surrendered a late-second half goal, falling 2-1 on the road to San Diego Wave FC at Snapdragon Stadium. Asisat Oshoala notched the lone goal for Bay FC, registering her second goal of the 2024 campaign. With her goal, she is now tied for the team lead in goals with Kayla Sharples.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Oshoala leveled the match in the 48th minute, converting a rebounded shot off the crossbar. Bay FC pushed for the game-winning goal, outshooting San Diego by a margin of 13-4 in the second half, but it was San Diego that found the late goal in the 78th minute to claim the three points in the match through a goal from Jaedyn Shaw. 

Bay FC scored for a sixth straight match, and are one four teams (North Carolina, Orlando, Kansas City) to tally a goal in all of their matches this season. Bay FC finished the match with 22 shots, recording 15 or more shots for a fourth straight game. It also marked the second time the club has registered 20 or more shots in a contest this season. Notably, the team recorded 15 shots inside the box during the match.

Goal-Scoring Plays
SD – Makenzy Doniak (Kimmi Ascanio), 13th minute: Makenzy Doniak received the ball 25 yards from the goal. Doniak dribbled to the edge of the box and cut back toward the center of the goal before firing a curling strike into the top left corner of the goal.

BAY – Asisat Oshoala, 48th minute: Deyna Castellanos played a pinpoint cross from the right wing into the center of the box for Kayla Sharples, who delivered a header that rattled the crossbar. The ball landed for Asisat Oshoala at the edge of the six-yard box and she sent the ball into the back of the net.

SD – Jaedyn Shaw (Elyse Bennett), 78th minute: Savannah McCaskill received the ball at the top of the box and then played it out to Elyse Benett near the right side of the box. Bennett slid a pass across the face of goal and Jaedyn Shaw converted from close range.
