Bay FC

Local high school seniors invited to apply for a $5,000 scholarship

San Francisco (November 15, 2024) Bay FC, the professional soccer franchise representing the Bay Area in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), announced the club will join the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes, and San Jose Sharks as a member of the Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team (BAASST), a joint scholarship program for high school seniors. The Bay Area All-Star Scholarships are awarded annually to five successful students who receive $5,000 in funding and will be recognized at a home game for each of the participating Bay Area sports teams. The 2024-25 application cycle will open later this month, and each team will be responsible for nominating local students in their respective territories across the nine counties in the Bay Area. Bay FC’s territory comprises participating public high schools in Alameda and Marin counties.

To be nominated, a teacher or school administrator must submit the scholarship candidate with a letter of recommendation describing the unique qualities, achievements, and circumstances that make the student an exceptional scholarship nominee. The nominated student then must submit an application form, a two- to three-page essay, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation, detailed below.

Student applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration by Bay FC:

  • Be a college-bound senior currently attending a participating public high school in Alameda or Marin County.
  • Have a Tax ID Number.
  • Display leadership qualities in the classroom.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from sophomore to senior year of high school.
  • Demonstrate the value of education, good work ethic, and community outreach.

Each student must submit the following information to complete this application:

  • BAASST application form. An example can be found HERE.
  • A two- to three-page essay explaining why they are a deserving BAASST candidate, taking into consideration academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.
  • Two letters of recommendation from non-relatives. The teacher, principal, or counselor who nominated the student must write one of the letters of recommendation.
  • Official transcripts from each high school attended.

A list of participating schools in Bay FC’s territory can be found on Bay FC’s website
