This marks Bay’s first match against Racing Louisville, who began playing in the NWSL in 2021. Louisville sits just above Bay FC in the league standings in 8th place, and Bay FC would move above them with a win on Saturday.
Though Louisville has fewer wins than Bay FC, they have been able to earn points in many of their matches and lead the league with 7 draws so far this season. Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo leads Louisville with five goals and one assist, tied with several players for 5th in the NWSL Golden Boot Race. Close behind DeMelo is forward Uchenna Kanu, who represents Nigeria on the International stage alongside Bay’s Asisat Oshoala, with four goals scored.
Bay FC is entering the match in strong form, with three wins in their last five outings. Against Angel City on June 22, Bay FC recorded its first home shutout and sealed its first season sweep of an opponent with a 1-0 victory. The Bay backline has been anchored this season by Emily Menges, who became the ninth player in NWSL history to achieve 15,000 career regular season minutes in the last match. In the victory against Angel City, forward Tess Boade took the team lead in goals scored with three on the season.
