Match Preview: Bay FC vs Club América | August 2, 2024

Bay FC hosts Liga MX Femenil’s Club América on Friday, August 2 at PayPal Park at 7:30 p.m. in their final match of the Summer Cup.

Bay FC can no longer win their group following losses in the first two matches and are eliminated from semifinal round contention. However, the match against Club América represents an important opportunity to test their mettle against a respected international club. It also marks former Bay FC forward Scarlett Camberos’ return to PayPal Park after being transferred to América Femenil on July 15. This is the last opportunity to watch Bay FC play before a three-week break leads to the NWSL regular season resuming on August 23 with a road match against Utah Royals FC. Summer Cup has created memorable moments for many young stars, including the Bay Area’s own Maya Doms’ first start at home and rookie Maddie Moreau’s stunning first goal for Bay FC. Friday represents another chance for Bay’s rotational players to make their mark and impress in front of a home crowd.

Club América earned a convincing 2-0 win over San Diego Wave FC in their July 26 Summer Cup matchup, with Karen Luna and Kiana Palacios providing goals. It was an important bounce back for the club after opening the tournament with a 0-2 loss to Angel City FC. Both Palacios and Luna play for the Mexican National Team alongside Camberos and several other players on the América Femenil roster, including defender Kimberly Rodriguez.
