Racheal Kundananji Leads Zambia to WAFCON Qualification
Racheal Kundananji was in outstanding form as she helped Zambia secure qualification for the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Kundananji played a decisive role in Zambia’s 4–2 victory over Namibia, opening the scoring just 13 minutes into the match. She added a second goal in the 72nd minute and completed her hat-trick with a third goal during stoppage time. In the second leg, Zambia also won 3-0 against Namibia and Kundananji contributed one goal. Her sharp attack once again highlights her importance to the Zambian attack and reaffirms her status as one of Africa’s most dangerous forwards.
Beyond her on field action, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that forward Racheal Kundananji has been named a nominee for CAF Women’s Player of the Year, honoring the top women’s field players worldwide who represent African-based national teams. She’s nominated alongside nine other top African players, including fellow NWSL standouts Barbra Banda (Zambia, Orlando Pride) and Temwa Chawinga (Malawi, Kansas City Current).
Defender Sydney Collins Selected to Canada Women’s National Team
Defender Sydney Collins returned to the Canada Women’s National Team for the first time since a left ankle fracture cost her an opportunity to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. Although she was with the club, she did not not feature in any matches.
Rookies Karlie Lema, Leah Freeman and Taylor Huff at U23WNT Camp
Rookies Karlie Lema, Leah Freeman and Taylor Huff joined the U23WNT camp in Philadelphia. This was Huff’s fourth selection to the USWNT U-23 training camps and Freeman’s first invitation to a national program this year. Additionally, Lema’s selection to the U23WNT camp marked her first time since February 2020.
