U.S. Women’s National Team gold medalists Sam Coffey and Sophia Smith did not appear in Portland’s August 24th road loss against NJ/NY Gotham FC. They could make their first return to the pitch for Portland after the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday night against Bay. Smith scored a brace against Bay in their last meeting on May 1.
Meanwhile, Bay FC will have some new faces after several changes during the NWSL Secondary Transfer Window. Following the departure of Lysianne Proulx, Bay FC acquired goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz from Kansas City Current in exchange for defender Kayla Sharples. Bay FC also acquired defender Abby Dahlkemper from San Diego Wave FC. With Savy King on international duty with the U.S. Under-20 Women’s Youth National Team for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Bay also signed Catherine Paulson as a National Team Replacement player for the duration of King’s time away.
