Bay FC is looking for a first win in the Summer Cup tournament when they host Angel City FC at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26 at PayPal Park. In Group B, Angel City and San Diego Wave FC each have a win, while Bay FC and Club América are seeking their first points. A win against Angel City can help keep Bay FC in contention for the group win, with the top four group winners moving on to the semifinal round in Kansas City.
In their last Summer Cup match, Bay FC made several lineup changes with Emmie Allen, Maddie Moreau, Maya Doms, and Jordan Brewster making their first starts for the club. In addition, rookies Jamie Shepherd and Caroline Conti made their first starts since May 5 against the Chicago Red Stars. Moreau capitalized on a turnover to score Bay FC’s lone goal of the match.
Angel City will be without Captain Ali Riley, who was called up to join New Zealand at the Paris Olympics but had to withdraw due to injury. They beat Club América 2-1 in their first match of the Summer Cup, with Kennedy Fuller and Sydney Leroux providing goals.
Bay FC has won both matches against Angel City in NWSL play this year, earning 1-0 victories each time. A clean sweep across the season will be a challenge, but the Summer Cup presents plenty of opportunity for players to make an immediate impact and defend Bay’s excellent record against LA.
