Bay FC (4W-9L-0T; 12 pts) hosts Angel City FC (4W-6L-3T; 15 pts) at PayPal Park on June 22 at 7:00 p.m. PDT presented by Sutter Health. In their historic first match of the season on March 17, Bay FC sealed their inaugural victory in a thrilling and tense one-goal battle.
Angel City comes to San Jose in strong road form, having only lost three of its last 13 road matches. To defend home turf, Bay FC will need to contain Claire Emslie and Sydney Leroux, who lead LA with five and four goals each, respectively. Leroux scored the game-winning goal in Angel City’s match against Racing Louisville on Wednesday, June 19, and enters this weekend’s match against LA tied with Debinha for 9th place on the NWSL’s all-time scoring list.
Bay FC will be looking to spark its offensive firepower after being shut out by Utah Royals FC last match. It could be the moment for Asisat Oshoala, who is one of six Bay FC players with 2 goals so far this season, to recapture the magic of her historic match-winning goal on March 17. She and Racheal Kundananji have put pressure on opposing defenses, peppering the net with a combined 37 shots. With the historic rivalry between Bay Area and Los Angeles sports teams, there is no doubt Bay FC will use the support of the crowd to make their mark on this season’s NorCal edition of this classic California showdown.
In stadium, Bay FC will honor Juneteenth with a variety of performances, cultural celebrations, and educational moments. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a special Juneteenth pennant sponsored by Sutter Health and designed by local Black artist Jackie Brown.
