Match Preview: Bay FC vs. Racing Louisville FC | September 7, 2024

Bay FC (7W-11L-0D; 21 pts) hosts Racing Louisville FC (4W-7L-7D; 19 pts) at PayPal Park on Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. PDT.

Bay FC won the first matchup between the two teams on June 29. Goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland kept a clean sheet and forward Asisat Oshoala converted the club’s first-ever penalty kick to seal the win for Bay. A victory on Saturday would mark Bay’s second sweep of an opponent in the regular season, the first being two 1-0 wins over Angel City FC.

Bay FC currently sits in 8th place in the NWSL standings, but Louisville is just a couple points behind in 10th place. In the tight battle for the final few playoff positions, a home win against Louisville on Saturday would help Bay FC maintain their grip on 8th place and continue to charge for a playoff spot in their inaugural season.

Racing Louisville will be without midfielder Savannah DeMelo, who has five goals and two assists this season, due to yellow card accumulation. However, Bay’s defense will still have to look out for Uchenna Kanu, who is tied for Louisville’s leading scorer with DeMelo, and Bethany Balcer, who joined Louisville from Seattle Reign during the secondary transfer window.

Bay FC is coming off a statement 3-1 road win against Portland Thorns FC, where Abby Dahlkemper scored in her regular season debut for the club. Following the match, it was announced that Bay FC acquired forward Penelope Hocking from the Chicago Red Stars. Hocking could make her debut for Bay this Saturday at PayPal Park.
