Vote Silky for NWSL Save of the Week

Vote Silky for NWSL Save of the Week

Although Bay FC fell short in a 4-1 loss to North Carolina Courage on Friday night at PayPal Park, goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz provided one of the top highlights of the weekend.

After a handball was called on Bay while defending in the box, North Carolina’s Manaka Matsukubo lined up for the penalty kick in the 50th minute. Already with two goals on the night, the 21-year-old striker attempted to complete the hattrick, but Silkowitz dove to her right and denied the attempt, marking her second save on a penalty this season.

In addition to keeping it a one-goal game for the time being, that save earned Silkowitz a nominee for the NWSL’s Save of the Week. A three-time winner of the award already this season, Silkowitz has become a regular fixture for the honor. This marks Silkowitz’s NWSL-leading 13th nominee for the award, and only Aubrey Kingsbury of the Washington Spirit has been the recipient of the Save of the Week award more times (5) than Silky (3) this season.
