The wait is over! After announcing the Fan T-Shirt Design Contest in early July, it’s finally time to share the six finalists. We have three fan-created designs for adults (ages 15+) and three for youth (ages 14 and under) for you to learn more about.
Adult Category
Design A was created by Amanda and includes a variety of images showing her Bay FC spirit. From the club logo and stadium to merch and food you can buy on site, this design shows a high level of artistic skill and interest in all things Bay FC. Beware, the hot dog and pretzels might leave you hungry! Here’s Amanda’s insight into her design:
- “My design is inspired by the iconic match day sights at every Bay FC home game, from pre-match fun (like food trucks and fireworks), mid-game necessities (snacks and jerseys), to the post-game scoreboard flashing ‘BAY FC WINS!!’ When the collage idea came to me, I grabbed a sticky note and scribbled down a list of as many unique elements as I could brainstorm. My favorite element is the view of PayPal Park as seen from Coleman Ave, a view that always signals that my long trek to San Jose is over and it is time for the party to begin.”
Made by Jaxon, Design B features a Bay FC player donning a branded top and shorts as well as sleek cleats. She’s got her eye on the ball and is working up quite a sweat, so we know she means business. What a great way to cheer on the team! Jaxon has provided this background about the design:
- “In the process of making my design, I took a lot of my inspiration from creators like Kei Urana and wanted to make something that referenced the team while incorporating movement. Art that includes movement usually draws the eye to it, and I wanted to do the same here. Everything else that followed was what I believed flowed best with the art I was designing.”
Ryan came up with Design C, which features a soccer ball holding a scarf reading, “Let’s Go Bay!” The ball is vocalizing their support and has stars in its eyes – something we all feel when the team steps onto the pitch. Ryan had this to add:
- “I took inspiration from my love of retro cartoon aesthetics and combined the excitement of the game, specifically the tradition of ‘Scarves Up!’ as a way of celebrating. This led to the concept of a retro cartoon soccer ball holding up the scarf giving a design that is equal parts fun and timeless. And of course, it felt natural to use navy blue and poppy as the colors.”
Youth Category
Design D, created by Adelina, is the first in the youth category, and it includes four postage stamps featuring the NWSL, the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay FC, and her love of soccer. This design is perfect for the soccer fans who want to share their love across all nine counties that Bay FC represents. Here’s more insight about her piece:
- “Adelina enjoys playing and watching soccer. She is creative and loves drawing and coloring. These skills inspired her to participate in this contest.”
In Design E, Daphne has joined her love of cats and soccer in this image of a black cat with a poppy behind her ear on a Bay FC branded soccer ball. This design shows a strong sense of shadow, color, and depth – all while capturing two favorite interests. More on Daphne’s tee:
- “Daphne’s design was inspired by the plumpy orange cat with teeny Bay FC tee stuffy that we brought home after one of the matches. Our family has black and gray fluffy cats in our family, Lucy and Gus Gus, whom she incorporated. She added the California poppy behind kitty’s ear because her first Bay FC merch item was the poppy collection scarf. Daphne loves using a variety of media to create her artwork from reusable tissue paper to acrylic to pastels to paint pens. She aspires to become an animator for Disney Studios and bring her joy of art to the big screen!”
Design F, made by Ava, prominently features a soccer ball with interlocking poppies, stems, and leaves. Atop the ball lies “The Bay,” so fans know this is a Bay FC fan through and through. What a great way to show your pride for team and home, along with a love of nature. On Ava’s design:
- “Ava came up with her design while kicking a Bay FC soccer ball against the wall and thinking about what she might put on a t-shirt. Obviously poppies and Bay FC go well together and so it only made sense to combine them.”
