Bay FC and Sutter Health’s “B You” Initiative on World Mental Health Day

October 10 is World Mental Health Day, which was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of mental health issues and to support efforts to tackle these issues head-on across the globe.

This year, they’re uplifting the voices of people with lived experience to better affect policy, services and decisions that affect their lives and wellbeing. An important aspect of this is to shift away from “long-stay psychiatric institutions towards community-based, person-centered mental health care.” You can learn more about this campaign here.

Echoing this community-based approach, Bay FC and Sutter Health have joined together to champion the “B You” community health and wellness initiative. With an overall aim to elevate and expand Bay Area community health and wellness initiatives, this program aims to tackle prevalent barriers in sports that affect young women’s participation and wellbeing.

One of the barriers they’ve focused on is mental health. In this video, see how our players create their own safe spaces and nurture their mental wellbeing.
