After picking up points in each of the club’s two road matches coming out of the June international break, Bay FC returns to PayPal Park on Saturday, July 18, when they host the North Carolina Courage for the side’s first home match since May 24.

This will be the second of two head-to-head meetings with the North Carolina Courage this season. Back in March, Bay FC netted a season-high three goals in the first half of a 3-1 win in Cary, N.C. Forward Alex Pfeiffer had a goal and an assist in that match, one of two times she has achieved that feat this season. After missing eight matches this season due to injury, the 18-year-old forward has played in each of the last two matches. While she hasn’t yet scored since her return, she has been knocking on the door of doing so, rattling the woodwork late in the first half of Friday’s 2-0 win at Louisville.
About The Opponent
North Carolina Courage visits the Bay Area after seeing a four-match winning streak come to an end with Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Washington Spirit FC. Ashley Sanchez leads the Courage’s offensive attack and is second in the NWSL with nine goals this season. She has two braces this season, most recently on July 4 vs. Seattle, and the team is undefeated this season (5W-2D-OL) in games this season in which she scores. While Sanchez will certainly be a focus of Bay FC’s defensive scheme, that will not be the case for midfielder Manaka Matsukubo. The reigning NWSL Midfielder of the Year with the Courage, who posted a hat trick in her last regular season match at PayPal Park and scored again against Bay FC earlier this season, was recently transferred to Chelsea.
