Bay FC Acquires Mexican National Team Forward Scarlett Camberos from Angel City FC 

Angel City receives expansion draft protection, $50,000 Allocation Money 

San Francisco (Dec. 12, 2023) Bay FC, the Bay Area’s new women’s professional soccer franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), has acquired forward Scarlett Camberos from Angel City FC in exchange for $50,000 in Allocation Money and protection in the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft, it was announced today. 
 
“Scarlett is a dynamic, young winger that we believe has an opportunity to make an immediate impact on this team,” said Bay FC General Manager Lucy Rushton “She brings pace, energy and the ability to create and score goals. Her qualities that she brings make her a perfect fit for how we want to play.” 
 
Camberos joined NWSL in 2023, signing with Angel City FC on March 29 after beginning her professional career with Club América in the Liga MX Femenil (2021-23). In her first NWSL season, Camberos appeared in 19 regular season matches (10 starts), tallying one goal and three assists. Camberos also featured in six Challenge Cup matches (all starts), recording one goal and two assists. 
 
A native of San Diego, Calif., Camberos registered for the 2021 NWSL Draft, but was not selected and signed with América on Dec. 30, 2021. Across two seasons, Camberos scored 18 goals in 41 matches. She also helped guide the club to appearances in the Apertura 2022 final and the semifinal of the 2022 Women’s Cup. 
 
A member of the Mexico Women’s National Team, Camberos has made 13 appearances, scoring two goals. She earned her first cap against New Zealand on Sept. 2, 2022, in an international friendly. She represented Mexico at the 2023 Pan American Games, helping the team to a gold medal and an undefeated record in the tournament. Camberos was also part of the squad that qualified for the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup. During the qualification tournament, Camberos scored the game-winning goal against Puerto Rico (Sept. 22), starting all four games in Group A play. 
 
Collegiately, Camberos attended UC-Irvine from 2018-21. In her final season, Camberos tallied 13 goals and seven assists in 22 appearances for the Anteaters and was named Big West Offensive Player of the Year. In three seasons, Camberos appeared in 57 games (40 starts), registering 17 goals and 10 assists, earning All-Big West honors in 2021 (first team) and 2019 (second team).

Bay FC is entering its first season in the NWSL and will have the first pick in the 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft set to take place virtually on Friday, December 15. The 2024 NWSL Expansion Draft will air live on CBS Sports Network with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
