Bay FC adds Canadian goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx

Canadian international signs through 2025 season with option for 2026

San Francisco (Feb. 8, 2024) Bay FC, the Bay Area’s new women’s professional soccer franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), have acquired the rights to Canadian goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx through a transfer with Australian club Melbourne City FC in exchange for a transfer fee, the club announced today. Following the transfer, the goalkeeper has signed a contract through the 2025 season with an option for the 2026 campaign. She will join the team and be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Proulx will occupy an international roster spot.

“Lysianne possesses exceptional athletic attributes and is a great example of a modern goalkeeper,” said Diego Restrepo, Bay FC head of goalkeeping. “Her ability to make crucial saves, read the game and play out from the back are impressive. We are thrilled to welcome her to our team and support her ongoing journey and growth.”

As a professional, Proulx most recently played in Australia, signing with Melbourne City FC in Aug. 2023. During the 2023-24 season, she helped the team move to the top of the A-League table, starting and playing in 14 matches with 50 saves. Prior to her move to Australia, Proulx played professionally in Portugal for Torreense for the 2022-23 season, appearing in 18 of the team’s 22 matches.

With Canada, Proulx was part of the roster for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia. The goalkeeper has not yet featured for the senior team but has represented her country at the youth level in the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup (2016) and twice at the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup (2014, 2016). She won two Concacaf youth medals, earning gold at the U-15 level in 2014 and silver with the U20s in 2015.

Proulx competed collegiately at Syracuse University from 2017-21. During that time, she appeared in 52 games. In 2020, she started every game and finished the season ranked third in the NCAA in saves per game (9.12). As a junior in 2019, Proulx led the ACC in saves (83) and saves per game (5.19).
