Bay FC falls 5-2 on the road to Kansas City Current

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 20, 2024) – Bay FC conceded multiple goals in both halves, falling 5-2 on the road to the Kansas City Current at CPKC Stadium on Saturday evening. Tess Boade scored her first goal of the season, while Kayla Sharples added her second of the year. Deyna Castellanos and Joelle Anderson both added their first assists of the 2024 campaign.

The Current scored a pair of goals inside the first 10 minutes of the match, but Bay FC pulled a goal back in the 17th minute off a corner kick to make it a 2-1 scoreline. Sharples scored for a second straight contest, becoming the first Bay FC player with multiple goals this season. Kansas City added three more goals in the second half to secure the win and remain unbeaten at home during the 2024 season before Boade added a late goal for Bay FC.

Goal-Scoring Plays
KCC – Bia, 2nd minute: Off a turnover, Bia picked up the ball just outside the Bay FC box, dribbled toward goal and fired a shot into the back of the net from 10 yards out.

KCC – Bayley Feist (Alex Spaanstra), 6th minute: Off a corner kick, the ball landed near the right edge of the box for Alex Spaanstra. She played a cross into the center of the box for Bayley Feist, who directed a header inside the right post.

BAY – Kayla Sharples (Deyna Castellanos), 17th minute: Taking advantage of a set piece, Bay FC played a short corner. Dorian Bailey delivered a pass to Deyna Castellanos, who fired in a cross to find Kayla Sharples at the back post. Sharples headed the ball back across the goal into the left side of the net.

KCC – Temwa Chawinga (Vanessa DiBernardo), 56th minute: On the counterattack, Vanessa DiBernardo sprung the attack, playing a long pass into space for Temwa Chawinga running down the right side of the field. Chawinga dribbled into the box and fired a shot inside the right post.

KCC – Temwa Chawinga (Vanessa DiBernardo), 62nd minute: Again, on the counterattack, DiBernardo played a long ball over the top. Chawinga beat a Bay FC defender to the ball, stopped just outside the box and finished with a left-footed shot from distance over the outstretched arms of Bay FC goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx.

KCC – Bia, 73rd minute: Bia raced into the box down the right side. Bay FC tried to win the ball back inside the box, but despite the attempted clearance the ball bounced back to Bia and she sent her shot from the right corner of the six-yard box into the goal.

BAY – Tess Boade (Joelle Anderson), 78th minute: Tess Boade received the ball from Joelle Anderson near the center circle inside the Current’s half of the field. Boade took on several players before finding a pocket of space as she made her way down the left side of the box and finished from close range.
