The scholarship will grant $5,000 to Commers for her demonstrated leadership and commitment to creativity and further assist in her goal of becoming a registered nurse
Bay FC, the professional soccer franchise representing the Bay Area in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), announced Julia Commers, a McClymonds High School senior, as the Club’s first Bay Area All Star Scholarship Team (BAASST) member for her commitment to academics and demonstration of leadership.
Commers, who plans to study nursing and psychology, was notified of her win in a surprise video from Bay FC Defender Caprice Dydasco earlier today. Commers will join fellow Bay Area professional sports team BAASST winners and be recognized on-field and presented a check for $5,000 at Bay FC’s home match against Seattle Reign FC on Saturday, April 26 at PayPal Park.
Commers, an 18-year-old senior, participated in cheer, achieved honor roll all four years, and is a member of the McClymonds Student Leadership Team. Julia also serves as the voice of McClymonds, delivering daily announcements to the school body via intercom, and spearheading school events such as pep rallies. In addition, Commers participated in the HEAL Program internship with the Alameda Health System and the Destination College Advising Corps, actively contributed as a member of the Youth Wellness Advisory Board at the Chappell-Hayes Health Clinic, in partnership with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, and interned at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where she rotated through various departments and floors, shadowing nurses and doctors.
To celebrate her win, Commers will be honored at halftime during Bay FC’s home match at PayPal Park against Seattle Reign FC on April 26 at 7 p.m. PT.
2025 marks the first season Bay FC joins the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes, and San Jose Sharks as a member of BAASST, a joint scholarship program for high school seniors. The BAASST awards are given annually to five successful students who each receive $5,000 in funding to continue their education. Bay FC’s territory is comprised of participating public high schools in Alameda and Marin counties.
All five Bay Area sports teams will recognize the winners at a home game or match during their 2025 season.
