Bay FC rallies to earn 2-1 come-from-behind win against San Diego Wave FC

Scarlett Camberos tallies first goal of 2024 season to help club earn third win

SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 17, 2024) – Bay FC rallied back from a deficit at home for the second time this season, scoring a pair of unanswered goals in the second half to register a 2-1 win over San Diego Wave FC at PayPal Park on Friday night. Scarlett Camberos notched her first goal for the club, while Racheal Kundananji helped create the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to help Bay FC claim all three points.

Kyra Carusa opened the scoring for the visiting side, pouncing on a loose ball inside the box after Bay FC were unable to clear the ball off a San Diego corner kick in the 23rd minute. Just minutes later, Kiki Pickett came up with a key intervention, clearing the ball off the Bay FC goal line to keep the match at a 1-0 scoreline in the 26th minute.

Continuing their solid run of form at PayPal Park, Bay FC scored in their fifth straight home match. Camberos notched her first career goal for the club, converting a curling strike from the edge of the box in the 55th minute to level the match at one goal each. With the goal, Camberos became the ninth different player to score a goal for the club in 2024 and the seventh player to score a goal for Bay FC at PayPal Park.

Pushing for the winner, Bay FC found it again in the 87th minute – the second time this season the club has scored the winner in that specific minute – as Kundananji and San Diego’s Hannah Lundkvist battled for the ball near the goal line before it found the back of the net. The win was Bay FC’s third in 2024, snapping a five-game streak without a result.

Goal-Scoring Plays
SD – Kyra Carusa, 23rd minute: Bay FC were unable to clear the ball off a San Diego corner kick. The ball took several deflections before landing near Kyra Carusa, who fired a low, hard strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.

BAY – Scarlett Camberos (Kiki Pickett), 56th minute: Kiki Pickett picked up the ball in midfield and made a mazy run down the middle of the field. Pickett stopped just outside the box and found Scarlett Camberos with a square pass as she made a run down the left side of the box. Camberos delivered a curling strike from 15 yards out, tucking the ball inside the right post.

BAY – Own goal (Hanna Lundkvist), 87th minute: Dorian Bailey dribbled down the right side of the box and fired the ball across the face of goal. Both Racheal Kundananji and San Diego’s Hanna Lundkvist got to the ball at the same time, and it was directed into the back of the net near the goal line.
