Fall is Here: Best Bay Area Events for Families

The Latino Heritage Match in September 2025

With nine counties in the Bay Area, there’s always something fun going on. This fall, take your family to one of the many sports, arts, music, educational, or seasonal events occurring around town.

Sports

This one’s easy: we’ve got three home games and four events featuring Bay FC this fall. This Sunday, join us for the Latino Heritage Match against Orlando Pride (Sept. 27): an afternoon filled with music, games, and of course soccer! There will be a mambo-jazz band, folklórico dancing, delicious food, and an exciting match against the southeastern club. At our last two home matches of the season, watch Bay FC compete against Portland Thorns (Oct. 18) and San Diego Wave at the Fan Appreciation Match (Nov. 1).

See the club off the pitch at the Santa Clara Parade of Champions Festival and Sports FAN Zone (Oct. 3), featuring sports champions and community heroes in Santa Clara, as well as at the Bay FC Player Meet & Greet at Stevens Creek Chevrolet (Oct. 7) in San Jose. Boost your soccer knowledge and skills at a Mom’s Clinic in San Mateo (Oct. 25) and San Jose (Nov. 7).

Arts & Music

If you’re looking for family-friendly arts & crafts, head to Slide Ranch at Muir Beach for Family Farm Day (Oct. 17), where you can participate in fall color-themed activities like indigo dying, sunprinting, watercoloring and more.

For a more musical afternoon, the San Francisco Symphony is hosting two concerts that may pique your interest: Music for Families (Oct. 24), an exciting exploration of the animal world through music, and Día de los Muertos (Nov. 7), a celebration of Latin American music, art and culture. For families with children 10 and under, the Rock and Roll Playhouse (Oct. 25) in Oakland shares the music of rock legends like the Beatles with the next generation.

Educational

If your family is looking to learn something new while also having fun, Maker Faire (Sept. 25-27) is coming to Vallejo for a weekend of art, technology and science. This same weekend in San Francisco, the Randall Museum is celebrating its 75th anniversary (Sept. 27) with a free science, nature, and art festival – featuring a new history exhibit, crafts for all ages, climbing wall, skateboarding, archery, live music and more. At Cal State East Bay in Hayward, participate in family fun activities like an egg drop challenge, animal and environmental education, robotics and more at Science in the Park (Oct. 3).

Seasonal

Fall is incomplete without seasonal activities like apple picking at Clearview Orchards in Watsonville (Sept. 12 – Oct. 18) as well as in other counties in the Bay Area. Pick pumpkins at the Westbrae Nursery (Sept. 18 – Oct. 31) in Berkeley. View a pumpkin weigh-off in Half Moon Bay (Oct. 17-18).

Dress up and celebrate all things Halloween with free, family-friendly trick-or-treating, a live musical show, thematic refreshments and more at The Great Big BOO (Sept. 25 – Nov. 1) in Gilroy. Head over to Deer Hollow Farm in Mountain View for Spooky Times (Oct. 17): a day of meeting farm animals, participating in spooky activities and crafts, and exploring the haunted barnyard.

City dwellers can spend the evening playing carnival games, pumpkin decorating, face painting, exploring the San Francisco Public Library bookmobile, and more at the Fall Family Festival (Oct. 17) in San Francisco’s Civic Center.
