Bay FC fell on the short end of a 3-2 battle with the Utah Royals on Friday night at America First Field in Sandy, Utah. Karlie Lema opened the match’s scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the season on a well-timed slide that deflected an attempted clearance from the Utah goalkeeper right into the back of the net. Heather Gilchrist, making her first career start, also scored for Bay FC, heading in the score off a header pass from Hannah Bebar. That goal tied the match up at 2-2 in the first half, but Utah scored the match’s lone second half score on a penalty kick from Mina Tanaka in the 79^th minute. Utah also had first half scores from Moriya Miyabi and Narumi Miura, as Bay FC’s winless stretch extended to five matches. Bay FC will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 23, when they host Houston Dash in the annual Black Heritage Match at PayPal Park.
