SAN JOSE, Calif. (August 1, 2026) – Bay FC fell 3-2 Saturday to Seattle Reign FC after an eventful contest at PayPal Park. Despite a two-goal comeback by Bay FC to level the match late, a five-goal affair favored the visitors after a score with five minutes remaining. Bay FC will now set out on the road for consecutive away matches at Chicago and Utah in the next two weeks following a busy stretch of three matches in eight days.
“Disappointed and frustrating day again,” said head coach Emma Coates. “One of the messages to the girls is we just can’t start games like that. You know, we get put on the back foot straight away, and they’re already tough games in this league, and then to start this game going two nil down, the Gotham game starting going one nil down, both to early goals, you’re almost making the job harder than it already is. So I think that’s the that’s the biggest lesson over over this week.”
An eventful first half saw Seattle net an early goal, taking a 1-0 advantage just five minutes after the opening whistle. Forward Mia Fishel tapped in a cross from the left after forward Maddie Dahlien drove down the left flank and provided service into the box. The visitors generated a pair of opportunities in the following moments, but Bay FC goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz came up with two stellar saves to keep her club’s deficit at one.
Seattle doubled its advantage at the ten-minute mark. After a long ball was played forward from the back, Dahlien got on the end of it and put a left-footed effort into the back of the net. Bay FC answered quickly, however, as midfielder Hannah Bebar laced a Goal of the Week contender into the back of the net after carrying through the middle of the pitch to the top of the box for the first goal of her pro career.
Bay FC fell victim to its second rescinded score in as many games ten minutes after cutting Seattle’s lead in half. Midfielder Dorian Bailey corralled a ricochet flick-on attempt near the penalty spot and put it off the hands of the keeper and over the line near the mid-way point of the first half, but the referee brought the goal back for offside after checking the monitor on a VAR review.
After a nine-save performance Wednesday vs. Gotham FC, Silkowitz continued her run of good form. Following her two big stops earlier in the half, she denied another Seattle chance shortly after the half hour mark. A leaping punch sent a Seattle shot away and over the bar after the club had gotten in behind on the run.
Bay FC opened the second half with pressure on Seattle high in the attacking half. Its efforts were nearly rewarded at the hour mark after a spell of sustained possession nearly led to a goal. Service from the left by Bailey went across the face of goal, but a sliding Karlie Lema was just a hair late to get on the end of it, with the ball sneaking through traffic and out of play.
Changes late in the match helped Bay FC earn an equalizer with 15 minutes remaining. Forward Keira Barry netted her first goal at PayPal Park and second with the club off an assist from Bebar, who played a short free kick through to the Brit to the surprise of a Seattle backline expecting a long cross. Barry found the inside of the far post with a curling effort to beat Seattle goalkeeper Claudia Dickey. However, Seattle would pull back ahead with five minutes remaining after substitute midfielder Jess Fishlock won a footrace towards goal to net the winner.
Bay FC sets out on the road next week, visiting Chicago Stars FC Sunday, August 9. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT from Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium.
