A Month of Soccer: August Recap
Bay FC met several milestones in five exciting matches at home and on the road in August. Just two days after the first-ever Hip Hop Night match against Gotham FC on July 29, Bay FC hosted Seattle Reign FC on Aug. 1. Midfielder Hannah Bebar scored her first career NWSL goal and forward Keira Barry scored another, although the game ultimately ended in a 3-2 loss. A week later, the team hit the road to meet Chicago Stars FC in a game characterized by two scores negated by offsides penalties and goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz’s fifth clean sheet. The Aug. 9 match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Bay FC returned west in a road match against Utah Royals FC on Aug. 14. The club saw goals by forward Karlie Lema, her fifth of the season, and defender Heather Gilchrist in her first career start. In the end, Bay FC fell short 3-2 with an opponent score in the 79th minute. Back home, Bay FC bested Houston Dash 1-0 with a point by forward Cristiana Girelli, her first NWSL goal, at the Black Heritage Match on Aug. 23 – the team’s sixth clean sheet of the year. This past weekend on Aug. 30, Bay FC was on the road in a match against Washington Spirit, where they outshot their opponent 18-14, but still fell just short with a 1-0 defeat.

Bay FC kicks off Labor Day Weekend with a home match against the Kansas City Current at PayPal Park. This season’s first head-to-head meeting will feature faces new and old, including two current Bay FC players who used to wear the Current jersey – midfielder Claire Hutton started her career on the team, while forward Alex Pfeiffer earned the youngest NWSL scorer title when she debuted in 2014. Bay’s leading scorer from last year, Penelope Hocking, is now on the Current, appearing in 12 matches so far.
Currently in the top half of the table, the midwestern team has seen 2 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss in recent weeks. The 2025 NWSL Shield winners have two-time NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga on the roster, bringing the team nine goals this season. Fortunately for Bay, Racheal Kundananji has returned from her global gameplay and is ready to bring the offense we know her for.

Midfielder Taylor Huff in Bay FC’s match against Seattle Reign FC in August 2026
Sat., Sep. 12 at 5:00 pm PT at Seattle Reign FC
In their final meet of the season, Bay FC will fly to Seattle on Sat., Sep. 12 to play the Reign at Lumen Field just weeks after they met in August. Although that game resulted in a 3-2 loss, it did lead to many milestones and Bay FC will be set to rewrite their record against the team they never lost to before.
Since that August match, Seattle is close to Kansas City in the standings and has a mixed bag of results: 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. They’ve seen some movement on the roster with a contract extension for forward Ruby Hladek, signing midfielder Kelsey Branson and forward Ami Diallo, and loaning midfielder Sofia Cedeño and goalkeeper Neeku Purcell. We’ll see how the new mix compares to last month’s game.

Forward Keira Barry in Bay FC’s match against Denver Summit FC in March 2026

Bay FC opens a two-match week with a trip to the Mile High City to play Denver Summit FC on Wed., Sep. 16. When the two clubs met at the home opener in March, Bay FC won 2-1 with goals from Alex Pfeiffer and Joelle Anderson in a match that also saw the Bay FC debuts of defender Anouk Denton and forward Keira Barry.
In recent weeks, Denver has seen 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses, holding steady at the top of the bottom half of the NWSL. They’ve had a lot of movement on the roster since July with the transfer of forward Lourdes Bosch, loan of goalkeeper Pauline-Peyraud Magnin, signing of defender Gemma Bonner, and extensions of midfielders Devin Lynch and Meg Boade.

Back home, Bay FC hosts Racing Louisville FC on Sun., Sep. 20, the clubs’ final meet after Bay FC delivered a 2-0 win in July. In this match, Kennedy Fuller and Karlie Lema scored – the first for Fuller on the team. Louisville finds itself with 4 wins and 2 losses in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see if Bay maintains its domination over the opponent or if Louisville overturns its losing streak. The opponent’s roster has been shaken up a bit with loaning goalkeeper Cristina Roque.

Defender Joelle Anderson in Bay FC’s match against Orlando Pride in May 2026
Sun., Sep. 27 at 2:00 pm PT vs. Orlando Pride
Bay FC will wrap the month with the Latino Heritage Match – a home match against Orlando Pride on Sun., Sep. 27. The teams last met in May in Orlando, where the Pride emerged with a 3-1 victory. Since then, Orlando is finding itself a few spots above Bay FC in the league standings with 2 wins and 4 losses most recently. It will be interesting to see how the teams stack up since they last met before the June international break.
