July Recap: A Month in Play
Returning from a busy break in June, Bay FC played exciting matches at home and away in July as gameplay ramped up.
The team returned to action with a road match at Boston Legacy FC on July 5, which resulted in a 2-2 draw. The team remained on the road for a 2-0 win over Racing Louisville FC on July 10, before extending its unbeaten streak to three matches at home with a 3-0 triumph over North Carolina Courage, in which Karlie Lema scored two goals in 2.5 minutes.
Unfortunately, the tides turned in Houston on July 24 when the Dash scored the game’s only goal in second half stoppage time. Bay FC returned home on Wednesday, July 27, only to suffer another 1-0 loss, this time to reigning NWSL champions Gotham FC in a match that saw the return of Abby Dahlkemper and Taylor Huff to the pitch.
What to Expect in August
Sat, Aug 1 at 5:45 pm PT vs. Seattle Reign FC
Bay FC played its second home match of the week on Saturday, August 1, when the club hosted Seattle Reign FC at PayPal Park. The first of two regular-season meetings between the clubs, Saturday’s match saw two early goals from Seattle’s Mia Fishel and Maddie Dahlien within the first 10 minutes. Bay FC’s Hannah Bebar then scored three minutes later – her first career NWSL goal. Dorian Bailey scored what was thought to be the equalizer 10 minutes later, but the goal was overturned after video review – the second straight match in which a VAR decision nullified a potential game-tying score for Bay FC. Keira Barry tied the match in the 75th minute off a set piece that was assisted by Bebar. While Seattle didn’t have many chances in the second half, they converted a transition opportunity when it mattered most, handing Bay its third consecutive one-goal defeat, with a 3-2 final score.

Sun, Aug 9 at 4:00 pm PT at Chicago Stars FC
The team flies to the Windy City on Sunday, August 9 to play Chicago Stars FC at the third venue in as many years; this time on the shores of Lake Michigan at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. This match will close out the regular season series between the two clubs. Last time they met in May, Chicago brought it home with a 1-0 win.
Currently at the bottom of the table, the Chicago team has seen four straight losses in recent weeks: a 2-1 against Racing Louisville FC, 1-0 against Orlando Pride, 0-2 against Angel City, and 2-0 against Boston Legacy. In Saturday’s Louisville match, there were no points scored in the first half, while the opponent notched two goals to Chicago’s 1. Chicago welcomed defender Leila Ouahabi and midfielder Anna Gasper in their first matches on the team – we’ll see how this new energy translates during their Pride match against Bay FC this Sunday.

Fri, Aug 14 at 7:00 pm PT at Utah Royals FC
Closing out the series between the two teams, Bay FC and Utah Royals FC face off on Friday, August 14 in Sandy, Utah. The two teams played to a scoreless draw when they last played in May. Since then, Utah has climbed to third place in the standings, having won three of their last four matches.

Sun, Aug 23 at 3:00 pm PT vs. Houston Dash
Bay FC returns home in its last home game of the month against Houston Dash on Sunday, August 23 — the Black Heritage Match. The teams played most recently in late July when Houston ended Bay FC’s three-match unbeaten streak. This was a scoreless game until Houston’s midfielder Linda Ullmark scored in second-half stoppage time to secure their victory.

Sun, Aug 30 at 9:30 am PT at Washington Spirit
The club will end the month with an away game against Washington Spirit on Sunday, August 30. When they met in early April, the opponent scored two goals in the second half after a scoreless first. Washington Spirit is now second place in the NWSL standings after winning three of its last four matches.
